2021-2022 ACTUALS
INCOME: Offertory collections decreased 3% due largely to a few long time, generous parishioners moving to parishes closer to their homes. A lesser factor is the number of sporadic givers has continued to decline since 2020, the start of the pandemic years. The giving base remains steady with pledging families continuing to donate at pledged levels. The School increase of 6% reflects growing enrollment since COVID with many non-member families attracted to the education and values orientation of our school. A very successful and well-attended Lollapalooza 2022 is overshadowed by 2021 figures that include two virtual LOLLAs in one fiscal year, the regularly scheduled Lolla 2021 and a delayed Lolla 2020 in July. Major Gifts increased due to the return of CYO programs and their building rental fees.
EXPENSES: A 2.5% increase in staff salaries was minimized by the market driven delayed filling of some open staff positions. We are debt-free! The Payroll Protection Plan (PPP) dollars were used to pay off the church debt in 2020-21. With a strong cash position from the PPP Plan and rebates from the One Faith campaign, the high school debt was paid in full in 2021-22. School expenses increased because the state COVID grant funds last year were able to cover some expenses not covered this year. Hot Lunch food costs increased with free lunch program as more students participated but were more than offset by federal and state funding received. An added staff person in Programs and Ministries specifically for Religious Education for K-8 and programs for junior and senior high students helps rebuild our commitment to the youth, with programs limited to sacramental instruction only during COVID years. Facilities undertook much needed repairs and maintenance projects after postponing maintenance over the previous few years. Net Income is negative only because funds were used to retire the high school debt of $213,000.
RESTRICTED and OPERATING CASH. Our position is strong with minimal changes from the prior year.
2023 BUDGET
Income is flat with slight increases in Offertory and school tuitions and a conservative Fundraising (Lolla specifically) budget. Total expenses are up modestly but emphasis is placed on reinvesting in Faith Formation, particularly at the K-high school programs, the renewal of volunteer appreciation activities and plans for our 50th anniversary celebrations. Thanks to tight management of resources and the generous donors who provide them, we are debt-free with funds to repair, revitalize and reinvest in our community.
