Troop 394 provides an authentic Catholic scouting experience for boys that embraces the BSA’s outdoors program all while providing lessons in self-reliance, leadership and service.
We are a Scout led troop with numerous opportunities for boy leadership, at the troop and the patrol level.
Scouts are grouped into Patrols based on age, schools, and friendships when the Webelos/Arrow of Light groups join each spring. Older Scouts are integrated into existing patrols based on their age/grade level.
Adult family members (parents, moms, daughters, sons, dads, and grandparents) are all encouraged to be active in the troop by being part of the leadership or committees or just coming to campouts or other troop activities. We have several positions at the Troop Committee level to support the Scouts, there are additional opportunities throughout the council, and many of our adult leaders serve at the district level.
Troop 394 was founded by members of Good Shepherd and Sacred Heart Parishes and continues to support boys from both schools and churches. Our Good Shepherd Scouts are taught to take the Scout’s oath seriously to do his duty to God and country by adhering to Catholic teaching and service to our church and community. Our scouts are regularly reminded of their pledge “to help other people at all times,” fulfilling Christ’s command to love others as he has loved us.
Monthly Campouts are held in different locations with different themes throughout the year. Each campout has a special activity or merit badge focus determined by the troop. The average campout costs approximately $20 (including food) but can vary by location and activity as well as the planned dining options. Camping this year has included St. Louis Museum by train, horseback riding, shotgun shooting, Canoeing down the little Niagua River, and Camping inside of Ft. Osage. Each summer, the boys will also have the option to attend Camp Bartle, and the troop supports High Adventure (for those over 14) and unique BSA Activities and programs as offered throughout the year.
Annual Dues are ~$160 (subject to change) and are collected every August for registration. Dues go to fund BSA registration, equipment, and merit badges/awards. Dues paid to your pack will transfer to the troop upon crossover.
Scholarships are available for some activities through the troop and council on an individual basis when needs arise
Please visit our troop and come camping with us.
