Dr. Renée Anne Poulin’s studies and work have led her on a global journey through Canada, Italy,
Wisconsin, Florida, and Texas, before establishing residence in Kansas in 2020.
Renée Anne has been involved in the performing arts since age 5. After completing a high-advanced
certificate in violin performance, Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto, and an Honors BA in Modern
Languages and Literatures from Laurentian University (Sudbury, Ontario), she enrolled at the University
of Wisconsin-Madison to pursue a PhD in Italian language and literature. Combining her
multidisciplinary interests in literature and music history, she successfully defended her dissertation on
the development of the opera libretto in seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Rome. She has published
in top journals in her field and has presented research at several international conferences.
As a lifelong learner passionate about helping others grow, Renée Anne has taught a wide range of
courses on the faculty of numerous universities. Her broad interests and ability to connect dissimilar
people and fields have enabled her to approach learning and development in creative ways, to establish
new partnerships, and to lead organizations through innovation. Her unique approach to learning has
garnered recognition, including an “Innovation in Teaching” award.
Renée Anne performs as a violinist with various regional ensembles, such as Lawrence Opera Theater
and the Overland Park Orchestra, for which she serves as VP of the Board of Directors.
