Sacristans are scheduled on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. 

They are responsible for all of the physical preparation needed in the sanctuary for the celebration of Mass as well as returning all of the sacred vessels, linens, and books to their proper place. This position requires a fair amount of work before and after the liturgy, but allows for the person serving in this role to simply be present and pray with the Mass itself.
